For experienced players this can actually be a positive-ish trait once you get past the early game. In short, when you get injured, just avoid combat and take it easy for a few days and let your wounds heal. It's only useful to save time and hence make the game slightly less boring. Reading skill books is often a useful way to pass time and alleviate boredom during times when you don't want to go outdoors- in rain, fog or darkness for example. Allows you to keep a regular schedule, stay out of the dark, and excercise/forage/run/fight more before getting sleepy. The effects of this trait will eventually get better and better as you play through the game. Also makes vehicles louder. This means that the player can start the game with only negative traits if they choose to do so, but if the player wants positive traits they will have to make some compromises. Along with surviving the most obvious threat of flesh eating undead you will have to navigate your character's psyche as well as stress will impact your character's ability to deal with their situation. This trait is pretty good for exactly the same reasons as underweight. Just avoid getting fractures and you will barely notice you have the trait. ._2a172ppKObqWfRHr8eWBKV{-ms-flex-negative:0;flex-shrink:0;margin-right:8px}._39-woRduNuowN7G4JTW4I8{margin-top:12px}._136QdRzXkGKNtSQ-h1fUru{display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;margin:8px 0;width:100%}.r51dfG6q3N-4exmkjHQg_{font-size:10px;font-weight:700;letter-spacing:.5px;line-height:12px;text-transform:uppercase;-ms-flex-pack:justify;justify-content:space-between;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center}.r51dfG6q3N-4exmkjHQg_,._2BnLYNBALzjH6p_ollJ-RF{display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex}._2BnLYNBALzjH6p_ollJ-RF{margin-left:auto}._1-25VxiIsZFVU88qFh-T8p{padding:0}._2nxyf8XcTi2UZsUInEAcPs._2nxyf8XcTi2UZsUInEAcPs{color:var(--newCommunityTheme-widgetColors-sidebarWidgetTextColor)} Cooking is so useless taking this for -6 will hurt your character. This increases how far you can "see" behind your character and is enough of a buff that you can fast-forward and still react to zombies that attack from behind. Many months ago I did a list on my top 10 best traits in Project Zomboid. The extra speed will often cause you to crash and badly injure yourself, even with cruise control. Slow Healer (doesn't really matter; also don't get hurt), High Thirst (water is trivial unless you have month-long drought), Underweight (just gorge yourself on perishable food before the power goes out), Smoker (this is a positive trait disguised as a negative one), Prone to Illness (free points; just don't sit out in the rain naked for hours), Hearty Appetite (food isn't much of a problem and you need to eat enough calories to maintain a healthy weight anyway), Conspicuous (it makes you more likely to be spotted, but zombies are doing lots of spot checks anyway so it doesn't matter much), Weak Stomach (you shouldn't be eating bad food regardless, so this is free points), Short Sighted (it's broken and only decreases your foraging radius), Cowardly (unless you're going up against giant hordes panic isn't really an issue, and Beta Blockers are plentiful), Slow Reader (it's annoying but not bad, you just spend more time fast-forwarding in your base). Way more than exercise. Otherwise, 5 free points. New players are going to be better off with thick-skinned as it makes the game just a little bit more forgiving. High Thirst is easily fixed with a bottle of water. Because of this, it's an easy +2 point that can go towards a decent positive trait. Don't take it if you're planning on using an axe as a main weapon. Short Sighted only affects foraging radius and makes no difference to actual perception sight. Must have for people wanting to use axes as their main weapon. Not bad per se, just not worth the points. Strong, Thick Skinned, Outdoorsman Keen Hearing traits fall under positive traits. Reduces sound. With Sunday Driver, your vehicle will not perform when you need it. -1 fitness, Description: Reduced running speed, low endurance and prone to injury. Unlike in real life, being a smoker in Project Zomboid is not all that bad and doesn't cause any health risks. I mostly agree with your list but I also play in sandbox so some of my settings change the importance of things. January 15, 2022 by Jeff Project Zomboid is a zombie survival RPG with very deep mechanics. I mostly agree with you, with differences probably coming from differences in play style. Ive told my friends who are new to the game to take thick-skinned to start off with until theyre more comfortable to take the training wheels off. Build 41 has made cigarettes a little bit harder to locate but you still shouldnt have too much trouble. Speaking of underweight as a negative trait.. Runner: 3/5. Makes driving while towing, or driving already slow/heavy vehicles (especially modded ones) a nightmare. This perk probably wont get you killed, but i fucking hate playing with it. Worth considering if you know what youre doing. Unless youre able to set yourself up well with vehicles, gas, weapons and meds before you die; youre going to have to do the early game grind all over again. This means driving through bushes, towing vehicles, and having to life-or-death plow through zombies, will fail horribly. Slow Healer is another decent negative trait that you can easily deal with in Project Zomboid. Basically 2 free points. The reason is because the penalty is given to you from being overweight, and not picking the trait itself. I play with all loot set to extremely rare except for melee weapons set to rare and guns/ammo set to normal. You character wont get panicked if they come to a fight, it will just slow the EXP gain. Character is going to be stressed all the time, and washing clothes wastes time and water (and sometimes becomes unavailable while away from base once water supply cuts out). Just sleep through the nights or carry a flashlight, its that easy. With Project Zomboid youre generally going to be spending most of your time avoiding the action rather than tearing through zombies. Cigarettes are easy to find, and i think smoking every so often adds a neat little bit of immersion. It doesnt make your attacks less powerful or anything like this. I'd put Dextrous at 3. Avoid. All rights reserved. Underweight is your friend. Avoid. You can test this all out using the debug mode of PZ. PERSONALLY my ideal car is a Horizon or Dart with a 100/100 performance muffler so I would not want Speed Demon to ruin the stealthmobile. Water is easy to obtain. Large zed groups can be pulled outside, sleeping turned off makes sleep a non-issue, and you actually get the benefit of never getting boredom. Handy: 5/5 literally the only trait to give Maintenance, AND the only trait to give Carpentry. Of course things like cats eyes will be more useful when the world is set to pitch black nights, and other perks have specific uses to peoples playstyles so you may find them occasionally more useful than I may have rated them. Its that easy. Chances are you are taking a character with an occupation and already have an idea on what which weapons you wish to skill up. Not very useful, prevents you from taking prone to illness which is a very good negative trait to take. Pair with cowardly (or agoraphobic) and you have a very speedy character. Expensive, prevents you from taking slow healer, mostly useless. Still pretty bad for new players. One of the best traits frequently recommended by the Project Zomboid community is Short-Sighted. If that doesn't work then post the question. ._2Gt13AX94UlLxkluAMsZqP{background-position:50%;background-repeat:no-repeat;background-size:contain;position:relative;display:inline-block} Please read the following rules before commenting: Save my nickname and email in this browser for the next time I comment. The only opinion I disagree with is thin-skinned. NEVER take this. To stop crashing all the time, drive slower. But at that point you might as well give your character 2 extra points in the settings. It's a metagame thing; really 5/5 because the point of a game is to be enjoyable, not literally waste your time doing literally nothing. Multiple presets can be made to save a combination of a profession and multiple other traits which offer utility to the players that are eager to get right into the action. Keen Hearing: 3/5 simply because it's very useful and pretty much guarantees you'll never be caught offguard by a zombie behind you (at least as long as you're not fast-forward, but even then I think it auto-slows-down). This is a real challenge to start with and a pain in the ass to raise your fitness. 22. r/projectzomboid. Some really great points there, I hadn't realised any of that even after playing with some of these skills for a couple hundred hours lol. Maybe not deadly, but you will attract a few more zombies. When you want to be a peace-loving character, it makes you less likely to kill zombies with a weapon, but it's a nice trait to debuff your character with. The end result is usually pulling a few more zombies than you would without the trait, making it a decent negative trait for a combat build. One of the best traits frequently recommended by the Project Zomboid community is Short-Sighted. Unfortunately most of the traits are broken, some not really working at all or doing things completely different than they say in the descriptions. It's an absolutely amazing trait. /*# sourceMappingURL=https://www.redditstatic.com/desktop2x/chunkCSS/IdCard.ea0ac1df4e6491a16d39_.css.map*/._2JU2WQDzn5pAlpxqChbxr7{height:16px;margin-right:8px;width:16px}._3E45je-29yDjfFqFcLCXyH{margin-top:16px}._13YtS_rCnVZG1ns2xaCalg{font-family:Noto Sans,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:14px;font-weight:400;line-height:18px;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex}._1m5fPZN4q3vKVg9SgU43u2{margin-top:12px}._17A-IdW3j1_fI_pN-8tMV-{display:inline-block;margin-bottom:8px;margin-right:5px}._5MIPBF8A9vXwwXFumpGqY{border-radius:20px;font-size:12px;font-weight:500;letter-spacing:0;line-height:16px;padding:3px 10px;text-transform:none}._5MIPBF8A9vXwwXFumpGqY:focus{outline:unset} So even if it was hard to level it would still be bad. It's actually difficult to keep weight on my character with how much I jog around, which as I've found with the Minimal Display Bars mod, burns a ton of calories. Both farming and foraging are essential to long term play throughs but both those skills can easily be leveled up before you actually need them later on. It might make sense for Smoker to eventually be possible to get rid of, but it looks like it's permanent for now (maybe it represents those people who can never truly ditch the addiction, and not just anyone who's addicted).
