We did not notice a difference with the centered stance. Tbh the extra price might be worth it for the performance, and I mean you wont need another snowboard for a while after that. It tracks really well into jumps too. It was one area where we felt Jones could improve the ride in the past. Most of us actually liked that. yes standard vs jones mountain twin . This is a great board for hard to icy snow. We dont feel its a 7 out of 10 but more like a 5 out of 10. For example if you get the 156 and have a 23 wide stance then the set back inserts will work for you. Conditions: Really good Sierra snow with ony a few hard patches. Bindings: K2 Indy. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-190lbs) Most YES Camrock boards have more camber. I love it, it's a fun, playful and forgiving board. I'd ridden Death Grip and it works while not being intrusive. So much that I bought a Jones Flagship to charge harder. Basically this board is very versatile. Still its got enough to ride in harder snow as long as you dont fully commit in harder snow. Its a big bump down in comparison to the augmented camber of the YES Ghost which has the same shape and specs except for the camber profile. The 2018 156 Yes Standard was just not that fun for me and my size 9 boots compared to the 2017 model. They added the middle bite which is a pair of indentations in the sidecut below the inserts. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. Great set back on board for powder. From experience? Riders: James, Peter, Jimbo, Mike We do make money from the Where To Buy links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders perspective. Then throw in a nose with more surface area than the tail combined with a good big of early rise you get more float than you would think for a directional twin. On Snow Feel: Stable to even semi catchy. For jumping, this board has a nice, predictable pop to it. The base when waxed still has a great glide that holds its speed for a long ride. The rocker in the tip/tail makes it really easy. Powder: There is a very good directional float when you set it all the way back at a 22.75 stance width. The mellow rocker in the tip/tail gives it just enough to make it forgiving on semi-awkward landings. Jones Mountain Twin - Best for Carving, Some Freestyle, and Switch Riding. 5 is the reference stance now. Switch: The tip and tail have different shapes but the contact with the snow is a twin so other than buttering its practically perfect switch. tides equities los angeles does dawn dish soap kill ticks does dawn dish soap kill ticks I have 1 seasons experience boarding and many years experience skiing. It makes the YES Standard one of the better all mountain boards out there for powder. So all in all the Yes Standard continued on where the 2016 Optimistic left off and even though it has a moderately stiffer flex its a really fun quick turning all mountain ride. Approximate Weight:The 2015 Jones Mountain Twin 157 weighed in at 6.0 lbs which is .4 lbs lighter than the 2014. Days: 6+ Powder: Would of loved to see -15mm or even -20mm set back instead of a -10mm set back but its not been tested in powder by us. Nothing exceptional but above average with a good wax job. If you are a strong rider then you will like this. So it doesnt look as much like a twin as it rides on snow. The Jones Mountain Twin is a good example why your measurements are important: Jones specifies the Mtn Twin 157 as 25.4 cm "shaping waist width". The 2015 Jones Mountain Twin is very much like the 2014 except it has a lighter more lively core. Short to wide radius turns are fun and have a nice spring out of them. Edge hold was fantastic. Set Up: Guys- Centered approx 23 wide 15 front -15 back Girls- Set Back 10 mm 15 front -6 back. Edge Hold: Really strong grip without being grabby. At size 10-11 it would turn really well and most would call it med/fast edge to edge. It can even do pretty well in ice if you have to ride it. There is a very mellow camber between the inserts with a pretty pronounced and extended rocker after. We didn't ride 2020 Jones Mountain Twin but other than a change to a more eco-friendly resin and a slightly updated core it's the same ride as before. Speed:There is a bit of improvement when it comes to speed and the nose/tail doesnt chatter as much as it use to from 2013 and even 2014. 156: 10.-11 163: 10-11 Buttering: Such a great board for buttering. Boots: Burton Fiend LTD I am much happier on boards like the YES Not So Basic Globe for my boot size. Its the kind of board that can butter, carve, ollie, ride switch all over the mountain. Big, stable and sluggish but still a great board for bigger feet. Riders:James, Jimbo, Matt, Peter and a friend of ours named Ren, If you are new to hybrid camber it will take a bit of getting use to but after a few runs it will be really fun. Get this if you want something more buttery, forgiving and more playful. Boots: Burton Almighty, Adidas Tactical ADV, Burton SLX, Burton Rover, Burton AMB, Picks up speed quickly, very stable approaching and very easy/forgiving when landing. The base has good glide too. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. Its now intermediate friendly where before it was mostly for advanced riders. You add all this rocker and the tail with less surface area you get a little bit of that tapered feel in powder that freeride boards have. It feels more like a 3 and it can butter now. The added camber makes it carve up the pipe wall better than the older model. Rails and Jibbing You can hit rails and go through the jib park but there are many better boards out there than the Jones Mountain Twin. Days: 5+ Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Northwave Decades There is little to no chatter when you pick up speed either. Its not as good as those long freeride super carvers but its about as good as a twin can get. Its still not like the Jackpot but it sure does butter easier than it use to. Its a fun board to turn, ride fast, hit the pipe and get air with. It also made the Jones Mountain Twin and Ultra Mountain Twin feel like a fast turner and that's not a fast turning . That is really good directional float for an all-mountain board. Jumps: Much better pop than the old design. Not the fastest board I've ever had, but plenty of speed for most riders. When you get the YES Standard on edge it isnt very satisfying turning experience. Jumps: The Ghost is better for going bigger but the YES Standard is better for going small to medium while still being forgiving. It still isnt going to keep up with Alt Freeride and Freeride boards like the Y, Hybrid, Optimistic or Pick Your Line but it does really well for a directional twin. The average price was $546 (USD) The Standard ranked 1st out of 38! However, I got bored with it after two subsequent trips out west. Capita Mercury. Or, if you want somethitng a bit more directional, faster turning and more floaty the Jones Frontier is a great choice. 21 front -6 back, 15 front -15 back. There isnt much difference in terms of ride between the 2015 and 2016 Jones Mountain Twin in terms of ride so the 15 review stands pretty much the same. Bindings: Now IPO, Now Drive, Now Select,Burton Cartel,Burton Cartel Limited,Burton Diode,Union Force,Flux DMCC,Flux SF45,Burton Genesis,Union SL, Union Atlas,Union Contact Proand a few others. They kept the directional volume twin but added a bigger blunt tip/tail that not only looks good but also improves the float a little bit over the smaller nose/tail. Jones Mountain Twin Snowboard - 2022/2023. Days: 3+ Besides the slight lack of speed, the board was a little too soft for me. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded, 157: 9-10 Width over inserts. Speed: Its a pretty fast board and likes to bomb for sure. Conditions: Everything from hard snow to good snow and even a foot of powder along with some slackountry time with Drift Boards. It feels softer than its rating on Yes site. Edge Hold: The 2017 Yes Standard grips well but it doesnt grip like the Under Bite or Middle Bite tech. Id love to see them make it a little faster edge to edge. Uneven Terrain: With a little extra work it can weave in and out through bumps but its not a specialist here. The 2022 model did not change vs. the 2021 in this review or since this model was updated in 2018. * Donate to https://www.patreon.com/thegoodride or https://venmo.com/TheGoodRide (@TheGoodRide) or https://paypal.me/thegoodride or Zelle* Follow Us: https://www.instagram.com/thegoodride* Like \u0026 SubscribeThanks For Watching! If you need advice please read the full review on the site first and use the comparison tool before contacting us here: https://thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/ Reviews of Gear We Often Test With: Burton Kendo Boot Review: https://bit.ly/3Q4Mqt5 Union Atlas Binding Review https://bit.ly/3Q7xaLQ Burton AK 3L Gore-Tex Pro Tusk Jacket Review https://bit.ly/3SwJAyM Volcom Guide Jacket Review https://bit.ly/3SvMjs8 Burton AK 3L Gore-Tex Pro Hover Pant Review https://bit.ly/3BM05AV Smith Maze Helmet Review https://bit.ly/3byiR40 Smith 4D Mag Goggle Review https://bit.ly/3JDYS0E Burton AK Clutch Mitt Review https://bit.ly/3BYjjn8 Footprint Gamechangers Orthotics Review https://bit.ly/3QqkGPj Filmed With:Insta 360 One X2/New Vids One X3 https://www.insta360.com/sal/x3?insrc=INR1AEM GoPro Hero 10/New vids the Hero 11 https://bit.ly/3jJ2qm7 As the board softens up as its ridden more jibs do get easier. Speed: Its no bomber but its got enough to handle big, steep wide open groomers and then slow down and butter around when it gets flat. Also the nose length is longer than the tail length. **For 2020 & 2021 the YES Ghost now has Slamback Inserts as well so it isnt as far behind as the standard in powder this year. I've narrowed it down to the Jones Mountain Twin, the Captia DOA, and the YES Standard. It can also stop in the pipe and jump park no problem as well as hit some mellow jibs. Set Up: Centered 15 front -15 back 23 wide. The YES Standard offers a pretty forgiving board that progressively gets wider as it goes up in size and if your boot size matches up well to it you could have a pretty solid one board quiver to do a little bit of everything on the mountain. Im always really confident even in icy conditions. So in conclusion this is another excellent board from the Nidecker Umbrella that is Jones Snowboards. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. On Snow Feel: Feels like the wide version of the Standard I use to own. So you can generally go with a little bit bigger in boot size than you normally would. You could easily call it aggressive all mountain or aggressive all mountain freestyle. Jibbing: Not really a jibber but its doable. $439.96 $549.95 Sale. The lower volume nose allows the tail to sink a little better and combined with those slam back inserts the board transforms from a directional twin to a board that feels more like a directional freeride board when you get into the deep stuff. Jibbing: You can jib with the Standard but if thats your thing go with the Jackpot. Great one board quiver. Pipe: Man this is a fun pipe board for less accomplished riders like me but also strong pipe riders as well. Carving: We liked the improved edge hold with Middle Bite and it helps the board carve better in harder conditions. Turn Initiation and Carving: Same kind of turn initiation as before but just a little more technical and expert oriented than before. This is no freeride board built for speed but its very good for its shape and riding style. After being a dedicated Custom camber fan forever I decided to delve into the new world of cam/rock. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts, Yes Typo/Lib-Tech Orca/Capita Black Snowboard of Death. It also made the Jones Mountain Twin and Ultra Mountain Twin feel like a fast turner and thats not a fast turning board. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. What is cool though is it borders on being medium/fast in softer snow and in powder. Sizing: The sweet spot on the 156 seems like its closer to a size 10-11 boot. June 22, 2022 . Boots: Burton Almighty, Burton SLX, Nike Lunarendore Choosing between these for a first board. It eliminated the loose feel you can have with the older Jones All Mountain Twin. Its no powder specialist but like any good all-mountain board its competent almost anywhere and powder is no exception. Especially those that ride in harder snow. Its a different feel and has a little more dynamic/snappy ride than before. 21 front -6 back. It just helps you initiate the turn a little faster and makes it easier in messy bumps or in the trees on a powder day. Also, the limited stance width options might be tough for riders who prefer a wider stance. This is a shame too because all mountain boards, like The Yes Standard, are bought more than any other model so it would be great to see a size to match most riders specs and stance width. I mainly ride this board centered but even when its a little set back to get more centered over the camber its easy to ride switch. Its not enough to take away from feel of the board but just enough to make it feel damp without not being dead. I've be willing to bet the same is true for Mid-bite but I haven't ridden that sidecut. Dealing with small inconsistent groomers is easy. If you do you get a 3.5 difference between nose and tail or a 1.75 set back from the center of the board. Switch: So even though the tail has less volumeit doesnt until after the effective edge so its a twin between the feet. 167: 13-14. Its much easier to butter than a camber board of this flex due to the rocker at the tip and tail. Pipe: The Yes Standard is a great Pipe board and I cant wait to get more time in this pipe when we get this board for the season. Jones Storm Wolf Snowboard 2024. It takes a few days of riding in varying conditions to really appreciate. 162: 12-13 Even the tip/tail butter easier than they use to. Usually they excel in one condition but falter in another but not this ride. 168W: 12-13. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-195lbs) On Snow Feel: Very aggressive and all about bombing the hill regular or switch. If you were to compare this to other all mountain boards with a similar flex and base it would be excellent. This makes for a very consistent feel underfoot in all conditions when one footing off the chair or flat basing. For me at size 9 boots the 153 would be a great call but the 156 fits my weight better. June 7, 2022 . This stick has been and still is amazing. Theyhad a centered stance and a very small camber between the feet that ended before the binding inserts. With a competitive price and up-to-date technology, this board is a strong top contender for every all-mountain/freestyle board out there. Uneven Terrain: We actually like the Jones Mountain Twin better here with uneven terrain than the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. I ended up buying a used Jones MT too just cause it was definitely the board I would have bought if I had rode it first. Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Superpro with team ankle straps (similar to the contact but with taller straps), Burton Genesis, Burton Genesis X. The one thing with the Standard is you need full-sized disc bindings (not mini-disc) to get all of the directional float it can offer with its slam back inserts in powder. Then it gets a bump width-wise at 156-159 and it makes it a great board for those 10-12 boots. With a good set of bindings it will not pass up too much shock back to your feet if you have to go through Bumps or end of the day groomers with snow all sprayed around . Its nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused hybrid camber boards like the YES Jackpot or even the old Jones Mtn Twin but it isnt bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding. Close to Reference and Set all the way back. The 153 works best with my size 9 boots and the 156 works best with my 185 lbs and less importantly, my 510 frame. Camber Option: Camrock. That combined with the slam back inserts ( 1 x 2 set 1.5 back) makes it a great take on a modern all mountain board. Size: 157 Turn Initiation: Its not for the kind of rider that isnt good at turning but for those that are its quick and snappy edge to edge. That combined with the tail that hasless volumethan the nose after the effective edge you get some pretty good directional float. The 2013 is also a slight improvement over the 2011 and 2012 models because of the added camber. Set-Up: 21, 21.5, 22 Wide. Uneven Terrain: For someone like me with size 9 boots on a 156 this sucked turning through bumps. Flex: Feels pretty medium/stiff bordering on stiff. The Greats is meant to be a True Twin board i discovered that mines cae with a set back of about 2.5cm which would make this board absolutely useless to a goofy rider. So the 2018 review still stands and the changes werent big enough to tax Jones to borrow the board again. So all and all, the Jones Mountain Twin from years 2017-2020 is a fun ride that will fit a wide variety of riders. Here are the differences: So the changes that made to the Standard this year give it more of an aggressive all mountain freestyle flavor this year than before. The Jones MT is better than the Capita and Burton. 160: 10-10.5 From what I can tell it will be a bit stiffer and more suited to pow and faster speeds than the basic/typo. Turn Offs/Swipe Left: Need Full Sized Discs To Use the Set Back Inserts. Now that the Ghost has slam back inserts too its pretty close to the Standard but overall this has a little easier directional float. Its not a bad here though for what it can do everywhere else. It's been a slow start to the snow season, but we had 10 fresh inches of powder, so I put it through the test. Jibbing: Not a jib board and I wouldnt like to do anything other than a forgiving easy box. Speed: This board is very damp and stable at speed. This is why its always one of our top recommendations for those looking for a one board quiver. Skidded Turns: The rocker in the tip/tail makes the Yes Standard very easy to skid out if you get off your game. Set Up: Centered 23 wide 15 front -15 back. I would disagree with the 7 out of 10 flex and say it feels a little more on the medium side instead of med/stiff. Its got a very diverse personality that can fit a wide range of riders and it does everything very well. That combined with the directionalrocker and larger nose it floats really easy when set all the way back. If you are looking for a one board quiver this is why we recommend boards like this because they can double as a set back surfy freeride board when set all the way back and give you a taste of that directional freeride feel. Capita Mercury vs. Its got a very smooth cruisingtype of personality that blends with a wide variety of riders and really defines the one board quiver ride well. Final Thoughts on Jones Frontier vs. Mountain Twin Flex: This is the softest board Jones makes in my opinion. When it comes to carving its really good for a board that looks like its almost a continuous rocker board. (We dont put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight).
